Data Product Access Policies

Access policies help explain the conditions that apply when a consumer requests access to a data product.

Role requirement

Managing access policies at the data product level requires Data Product Owner permissions. If a Data Steward carries out this task operationally, the steward also needs the relevant Data Product Owner role.

What the policy supports

• Communicating conditions or attestations associated with access.
• Supporting the consumer access-request journey.
• Identifying the people or process involved in approval.
• Connecting governance expectations to the data product.

An access policy does not replace the underlying technical permissions on the individual data assets. The approval process and the technical access mechanism still need to work together.
